  • Life Unplastic held its Cozy Sweater Swap Party yesterday at its Gainesville store — a community event where customers swapped sweaters.  WCJB

CULTURE NEWS

  • Dance Alive National Ballet, the Gainesville Youth Chorus and a festival choir will perform an immersive concert on Friday, January 16 at 7:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, with UF string bass professor Dr. Alexander Pershounin set to improvise beginning at 6:45 p.m.  Alachua Chronicle
  • Muñecas Downtown will host live jazz nights on the 2nd and 4th Fridays from 7 to 9 p.m. local duo Jazz Life performs with guest artist Spencer Hofert to create a lively dining atmosphere with traditional Mexican dishes (rotating guest musicians add variety).  The Independent Florida Alligator

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Frazer School will host open houses at its new Hudson Building; the elementary event is Tuesday, Jan. 13 (6:00-7:00 p.m.) and the middle/high event is Wednesday, Jan. 14 (7:00-8:30 p.m.). Parents can tour renovated facilities and learn about updated programs.  Alachua Chronicle
  • The Florida Board of Governors stated that starting summer, faculty must post class syllabuses and materials 45 days before each semester while details remain unclear for some institutions (Santa Fe College plans to comply by fall).   • On Jan. 5, the Metropolitan Transportation Planning Organization approved plans for two new crosswalks nearly complete at the busy intersection near Publix at University Village Market (NW Third Ave) and by NW Fourth Place — grant approval is expected Fall 2026.  The Independent Florida Alligator
